Dal Baati is popular dish from the region of Rajasthan. Dal Baati is a complete meal. Dal Bati Churma is very healthy dish and it tastes great as well.

For Dal:-
Split black gram / urad dal Chilka (1 cup)
Split chickpeas / channa dal (1 cup)
Split red gram / tuvar dal (1 cup)
Split green gram / moong dal (1 cup)
Onion (2 pieces)
Tomato (2 pieces)
Ginger (1 inch piece)
Garlic (5 to 6 cloves)
Bay leaf (1 piece)
Green cardamom (2 to 3 pieces)
Clove (3 to 4 pieces)
Cinnamon (1 inch piece)
Asafoetidia (1/5 teaspoon)
Salt (as per taste)
Turmeric powder (1 teaspoon)
Red Chili powder (3 teaspoons)
Coriander powder (2 teaspoons)
Garam masala (2 teaspoons)
Water (Approx 1.5 liter or 5 to 6 cups)
Oil (4 teaspoons)
Ghee (3 teaspoons)
Water (as required)
For Bati:-
Wheat flour (2 cups)
Ghee (1 cup)
Carom seed / ajavain (2 teaspoons)
Semolina / sooji (1/2 cup)
Salt (as per taste)
For serving:-
Chopped onion
Lime juice
Chopped coriander leaves

Recipe Credit

  1. Preparation of Dal:- Pressure cook all the Dal with 2 glasses of water for 4 to 5 whistles.
  2. Finely chop tomatoes and onions. Make paste of ginger and garlic.
  3. Heat oil in the pan and add asofoetidia.
  4. Add bay leaf, whole green cardamom, clove, cinnamon and ginger and garlic paste and saute and mix well.
  5. Add chopped onion and saute till the mix becomes golden brown in color.
  6. Add chopped tomatoes and saute till it becomes soft.
  7. Add boiled dal and mix it well. Add water and stir till all ingredients are mixed well.
  8. Add salt, red chili powder, coriander powder and garam masala and stir for at least a minute.
  9. Boil dal for 5 to 6 minutes till it becomes little thick and you feel the aroma of all spices.
  10. Your Dal is now ready.
  11. Preparation of Bati:- In a wide pan take wheat flour and add semolina, salt, carom seeds and ghee and mix it till ghee is mixed well with flour.
  12. Knead a tight dough with warm water . Rest dough for 15 minutes. Make 15 to 18 flat balls out of it.
  13. You can bake Bati in tandoor or oven or Tava with steel net.
  14. Place net on tava and top with Bati and cover with lid.
  15. Roast Bati on low flame till it becomes golden brown from both sides.
  16. After roasting Bati dip it into ghee and serve with Dal.
  17. Serving:- In a bowl take Dal and dip Bati into it.
  18. Top with chopped onion and coriander leaves. Pour lemon juice and ghee.
  19. You tasty and healthy Dal Bati is ready to serve. Serve it hot.
