Gujarati Dal is a day to day dish for all the Gujarati people. It is really easy to make and rich in taste and very healthy dish. When it comes to the name Gujarati Dal, people tend to think it would taste sweet. Tuvardal/split red gram 1 cup
Tomato 1 nos
Sugar 1/2 tea spoon
Green chillies 1 nos
chilli powder 2 tea spoon
Curry leaves 6-7 nos
Salt 2 tea spoon
Cumin seeds 1/2 tea spoon
Coriander powder 2 tea spoon
Coriander leaves few
Oil 2 tea spoon
Turmeric powder 1/2 tea spoon
Ghee 1 tea spoon
Asafoetida (hing) 1/4 tea spoon

  1. Finely chop green chilies and tomatoes.
  2. Boil Dal with 2-3 cups of water in pressure cooker till 3 to 4 whistles.
  3. Grind boiled Dal with one cup of water and make fine paste.
  4. Take a pan and heat oil on a medium flame.
  5. Add Asafoetida once oil is properly heated.
  6. Add green chilies, cumin seeds, curry leaves for tadka.
  7. Add tomato in tadka and saute till it becomes softer.
  8. Add Dal paste in the pan and add water .
  9. Add coriander powder, chili powder, salt and sugar. Stir and mix all the ingredients well.
  10. Boil Dal with all ingredients well and stir until you feel it has mixed well with the other ingredients.
  11. Dal is ready.
